Evaluation of Propolis on Oral Flora Cells

The effect of propolis, a natural product, on human oral flora cells was examined across a range of concentrations. The work was carried out with the Department of Medical Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Marmara University.

The concentration range was set so that changes in cell viability could be followed dose by dose, and the solvent control and control groups were run on the same plate. Propolis is a resinous substance and does not dissolve in water; since the solvent itself can affect cells, running it as a separate control group is the only way to show that the measured effect belongs to the propolis.

The results provide evidence for assessing the potential of propolis in oral health applications.
